Baku-APA. At least 16 people including a woman and six children were injured Tuesday evening in a hand grenade attack at a police compound in Pakistan's southern port city of Karachi, local media and police said, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Superintendent of Police Aftab Nizamani said some unknown persons riding on a motorcycle threw a couple of hand grenades at the residential quarters located in the Salaar Compound of Police in the Bheem Pura area of Layari in Karachi.
According to the police officer, the attackers attacked the residential area of the compound where police families are living.
Police, Rangers and rescue teams rushed to the site and shifted the injured to a hospital where two of them were reportedly in critical condition.
The police officer said one woman and six children were among the injured.
A number of attacks at police and rangers have been reported in Layari area in the past, that is considered as the safe haven of criminal gangs.
No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet.
