Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Vershinin will be the new ambassador to Türkiye, Kommersant newspaper said, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.
According to the publication, Russia intends to change its ambassador to Türkiye. This information was confirmed to Kommersant by three sources.
Note that Vershinin has been holding the post of Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia since March 2018. Prior to this position, he served as Director of the Department for the Middle East and North Africa of the Russian Foreign Ministry. At the same time, he has held the post of Special Representative of the Foreign Ministry for the Middle East Settlement since 2011. In this position, he represented Russia in the negotiations of the "Middle East Quartet" (Russia, the US, the EU and the UN).
Sergey Vershinin will replace Alexei Yerkhov, who has held this position since 2017, as Russia's ambassador to Türkiye.
