6.0-magnitude earthquake rocks Japan

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.0 jolted off Japan's Noto region in the central prefecture of Ishikawa early Monday, according to the latest reports of the country's weather agency, APA reports.

The temblor occurred at 6:31 a.m. local time at a depth of 14 km, measuring upper 6 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale of 7 in parts of the prefecture, said the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA).

The epicenter was located at a latitude of 37.5 degrees north and a longitude of 137.3 degrees east.

According to the JMA, there may be some changes to the tide levels but no threat of tsunami damage.

Following the quake, a series of shallow-depth temblors hit the region, including a 4.8-magnitude quake off the Noto Peninsula at 6:40 a.m. local time.
