A 5.2 magnitude earthquake shook the waters near Gokceada Island in the Aegean Sea on Saturday, according to Türkiye’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD), APA reports citing Türkiye Today.
The quake occurred at a depth of 7 kilometers (4.3 miles), with no immediate reports of casualties or damage, AFAD said.
Bogazici University’s Kandilli Observatory, another authoritative source on seismic activity in Türkiye, recorded the earthquake’s magnitude as 5.4 and its depth at 12.2 kilometers.
The earthquake was felt in surrounding areas and several aftershocks followed.
