3 dead, 7 still missing in NW China mine accident

Baku-APA. Three workers have been confirmed dead and seven others remain missing in a coal mine accident that occurred Thursday evening in northwest China’s Gansu province, local authorities said Friday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

The accident happened at 6:56 p.m. in the Huacaotan Coal Mine in Shandan county in the city of Zhangye, according to the city government of Zhangye and the provincial work safety administration of Gansu.

Ten workers fell off a platform after it overturned more than 200 meters above the bottom of a mine shaft, authorities said, adding that the mine was under construction when the accident happened.

Rescuers are pumping water out of the bottom of the shaft in order to help locate the missing miners

The coal mine belongs to Zhangye Hongneng Coal Industry Ltd.
