US House of Representatives passes Mobilizing and Enhancing Georgia’s Options for Building Accountability, Resilience, and Independence (MEGOBARI) Act., APA's Tbilisi correspondent reports.
The bill was supported by 349 congressmen—168 Republicans and 181 Democrats—while 42 voted against it and another 42 abstained.
The document calls for a comprehensive review of U.S.-Georgia relations, including all aid programs, support for the Georgian people’s Euro-Atlantic integration, and urges the U.S. President to impose sanctions on officials of the Georgian Dream party and their supporters for attempting to steer Georgia away from this path.
For the bill to take effect, it must next be approved by the U.S. Senate.
