Protests against the mass detention of undocumented migrants have been ongoing for three days in Los Angeles, California, APA reports, citing local media.
Two police officers have been injured and 56 individuals have been arrested during the demonstrations.
California Governor Gavin Newsom has stated that he has demanded the Trump administration cancel the order to deploy National Guard troops to Los Angeles to deal with the protests.
Gavin Newsom called the deployment of troops a serious violation of state sovereignty:
"I have officially demanded that the Trump administration cancel the illegal deployment of National Guard troops to the Los Angeles area and return them under my command. We had no problems until Trump interfered. This is a serious violation of the state’s sovereignty and an escalation of tensions."
Note that the protests in Los Angeles against the mass detention of undocumented migrants have been continuing for the third consecutive day.
Trump stated that he had ordered 2,000 National Guard troops to combat the unrest. They began arriving in the city on the morning of June 8.
During Sunday’s protest in Los Angeles, two police officers were injured. At least five vehicles were set on fire.
