U.S. President Donald Trump is considering imposing sanctions on Russia this week, The Wall Street Journal said citing sources close to the U.S. President, APA reports.
According to the newspaper, additional sanctions against Russia’s banking sector are not among the measures currently under discussion.
The purpose of the new sanctions is to pressure Vladimir Putin into making concessions, including agreeing to a 30-day ceasefire as insisted upon by the U.S. President.
It is noted that a final decision regarding the new sanctions has not yet been made, and Donald Trump may refuse to introduce them.
Note that on Sunday, Trump stating that he was reviewing new sanctions against Russia criticized Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“We are in the middle of negotiations, and he is launching missile strikes on Kyiv and other cities. I really don’t like that,” Trump said.
