Foreigners traveling to Georgia by vehicles may be required insurance

From 1 May 2018 on, foreign nationals traveling to Georgia by vehicles for a period of more than 15 days may be required to pay civil liability insurance.

A payment for insurance is envisaged in an appropriate bill, APA’s Georgia bureau reports.

The bill was adopted by the Georgian parliament in the third reading and will come into force after being signed by the country’s president.

The insurance will be available at border checkpoints. The price of the insurance package will depend on the type of vehicle and the length of stay.

It will be possible to insure the vehicle for 15, 30, 90 days and 1 year.

A foreign citizen will be fined at the amount of 100 lari for driving motorcycles, cars, agricultural equipment without insurance, and 200 lari for driving buses and trucks without insurance in Georgia.
