Russia to remain Armenia’s strategic ally, Pashinyan says

Russia and Armenia will remain strategic allies, Armenia’s opposition leader and the only candidate for the prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan told the parliament on Tuesday, APA reported citing TASS.

"We consider Russia as a strategic ally, our movement does not create threats for this," Pashinyan said. "If I am elected [as the prime minister], Armenia will remain a member of the Eurasian Economic Union and the Collective Security Treaty Organization," he said.

Forty seven opposition members of parliament have pledged to vote for Pashinyan, but he is still six votes short of the 53 he needs from the 105-seat legislature, where the Republican Party has a majority.
