Pedro Agramunt receives honorary doctorate from Russian higher school

Former president of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Pedro Agramunt became the first Spaniard to receive an honorary doctorate from the Russian Presidential Academy of National Economy and Public Administration (RANEPA), an APA correspondent reported from Moscow.

Chairman of Russian State Duma Committee on International Affairs Leonid Slutsky, via Facebook, expressed pride in friendship with Agramunt.

“Agramunt has made a great contribution to Russian-Spanish relations, but this is not the main thing. Agramunt is a man of great courage. He was not afraid of going to Syria when he was serving as the PACE president. After visiting the Khmeimim military base, he said that the Russian Defence Ministry had achieved remarkable results. I think Agramunt was well aware that anti-Russian forces in PACE would not forgive him for this act and would try to remove him from office, which recently happened. However, Agramunt preferred to convey to the world community to the truth about Russia’s activities in Syria. Yes, he lost his high post, but thanks to him, millions of Europeans could see Russia without propaganda templates,” Slutsky wrote.

Pedro Agramunt as PACE president on October 6, 2017, although his term of office was to come to an end in 2018.
