Ziyafat Asgarov: Gabala radar is no threat for Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity
“Gabala radar station is of analytical character and poses no threat for the country’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” first vice-speaker of parliament, chief of the standing commission on security and defense issues Ziyafat Asgarov told APA. Taking a stance on Iranian ambassador to Azerbaijan Nasir Hamidi Zare’s statement that joint use of Gabala radar station by Russia and the US would be violation of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty Ziyafat Asgarov reminded the agreement between Russia and Azerbaijan on the use of Gabala radar station. The vice-speaker said the agreement is effective by 2012.

Most MPs not have a vacation
APA conducted a survey among Azeri parliamentarians where they spent their vacation. Most of the respondents complained of the lack of time saying that they had no vacation throughout summer. Respondents Igbal Agazade, Azar Amiraslnaov, Jamil Hasanli, Gudrat Hasanguliyev, Asim Mollazade, Panah Huseyn, Rafael Huseynov, Sabir Rustamkhanli, Akram Abdullayev, Miri Gambarov, Zahid Oruj, Rabiyyat Aslanova,Ganira Pashayeva, Havva Mammadova, Eldar Ibrahimov, Elman Mammadov, Ikram Israfilov, Nasib Nasibli, vice-president Bahar Muradova, Govhar Bakhshaliyeva, Malahat Hasanova,Ilyas Ismayilov, Javanshir Pashazade, Aydin Abbasov nad Shamsaddin Hajiyev said that they could not rest because of lack of time, event could not get out from the capital.

MPs raises issue on Gabala RS
Today the last meeting of spring session of parliament started working. Before debating agenda issues MPs touched on some questions, APA reports. Panah Huseyn touching upon the issue of Gabala radar station said this radar is Russia’s military base in fact. He said as parliament approved the issue of Russia use of radar MPs should have a say on current situation over the Gabala RS. MP said Iranian parliament threatened Azerbaijan on this issue. MP Fazil Gazanfaroghlu said there is need for debating issue at the state level. Deputy Chairman of Azerbaijan parliament Ziyafat Asgarov striking back Panah Huseyn said Gabala RS is not military base but analytic center. “The agreement between Azerbaijan and Russia emphasized it”.

Ziyafat Asgarov: Joint use of Qabala radar station would ease Russia-US tension
The operation of the existing Qabala Radar Station in Azerbaijan jointly by the US and Russia would not harm relations between Azerbaijan and Iran, vice-speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament, MP Ziyafat Asgarov stated, APA reports.

Ziyafat Asgarov invites NATO PA President to Azerbaijan
Vice-speaker of Azerbaijani Parliament and head of Azerbaijani Delegation to the NATO PA Ziyafat Asgarov held a press conference on the results of spring session of NATO PA held in Portugal. Ziyafat Asgarov emphasized that Kosovo settlement can not be precedent for the “frozen conflicts” in the territory of former Soviet Union, APA reports. Azerbaijani Delegation’s members said Armenia is involved in the illegal producing and circulating narcotic means using Azerbaijan’s occupied territories as staging post while the issue on cultivating narcotics in Afghanistan was debated.

Azerbaijani MPs concerned over NATO debates on religious situation in Azerbaijan
Spring session of NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA) has ended in Portugal. MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev, member of Azerbaijan Delegation to NATO PA told APA. He said Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security (CDS) held debates on “State and religion in the Black Sea region”. According to him, rapporteur from Netherlands Bert Middel reported on the issue. Report on Azerbaijan criticized Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO), noting that CMO is corrupt. The report said State Committee for Religious Communities was in conflict with the Caucasus Muslims Office. It is also stressed that the number of religious radical groups has increased in Azerbaijan. Head of Azerbaijan Delegation protested to the negative moments in the report. Vice-speaker said the conflict between Caucasus Muslims Office and State Committee was lifted as the head of the latter removed.

Ziyafet Asgarov: Parliament can discuss increasing the number of soldiers in Afghanistan if appealed
“If the parliament is appealed for increasing the number of soldiers serving in Afghanistan in the composition of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) it can be discussed,” chief of parliament’s standing commission for security and defense Ziyafat Asgarov said, APA reports.
