Azad Rahimov: â€œCoaches are unskilledâ€

Baku â€“ APA. Scientific-practical conference on the theme â€œCurrent problems of physical training and sportâ€ has been held today on the occasion of March 5 â€“ Day of Physical Training and Sport, apasport.az website reports. Officials of Azerbaijani Youth and Sport Ministry, National Olympic Committee, representatives of various federations, scientists, researchers and other guests attended the conference.

Making a keynote speech at the conference Youth and Sport Minister Azad Rahimov said that the State Program on Development of Physical Training and Sport covering 2004-2008 had been implemented successfully.
â€œOur sportsmen won 1693 medals in 629 Olympic and 1064 non-Olympic competitions within four years. Our Olympians and paralympians achieved success in 2008,â€ he said.

Touching on the future plans the minister said our country was preparing for 2012 London Olympic Games with scientifically based concept.
â€œWe have prepared national strategy on development of physical culture and sport in the country. The national strategy covers 2009-2020. The first stage covers 2009-2012, period of preparation for London Summer Olympic Games,â€ the minister said.

Then Azad Rahimov spoke about the current problems. He criticized the coaches and sport trainers. â€œI am not satisfied with the comprehensive researches in the field of physical education and sport. Main problem, which prevented the development of sport, is unskillfulness of coaches and sport trainers. Particluraly, results of winter examination session in the Physical Education and Sport Academy and lowering of mastery percentage concern usâ€.

Rahimov said womenâ€™s involvemnet in the sport was not satisfactory. The minister said lack of female coaches and sport trainers was the serios problem. The minister wished for soonest elimination of the problems, congratulated the conference particpants and wished them successes.

Then the particpants delivered speeches. The conference will be continued after short braek with the unit meetings in the afternoon. The units will focus attention on the training of perspective sportsmen, problems of the sport masters, medical-biological and psychological problems of the physical education and sport, as well as dope-test control.
