Azerbaijani weightlifting team coach to be dismissed

The minister noted that his strategy in the squad didnâ€™t prove itself in Beijing Olympics where none of 5 athletes manage to score a medal although 4 of them were ranked in top ten. Rahimov stated that they intend to conduct reforms in boxing as well. The minister sees no reason why there were less boxers and scored medals in Beijing Olympics than in Athens. It was a sign that coach Nariman Abdullayev is likely to follow Nazarov. Rahimov added that they also intend to take important measures to improve athletics, rowing, cycling, swimming and beach volleyball, as well.
â€œWe will change the running track of Tofig Bahramov stadium in a few days. We have already repaired Republic Olympic Manege to go in for athletics in winter. I hope Azeri athletes will qualify for running, as well as triple jump in 2012 London Olympics. We intend to discuss the establishment of cycling school in order improve this sports in the country too. We will take swimming and beach volleyball into consideration. We have all necessary conditions to provide all assistance to the sportsmen in these fields. We expect our canoer Valentin Demyanenko to succeed in London. Demyanenko could have scored a silver medal if he had qualified for Beijing Olympicsâ€, he added.
