Baku. Kenan Hasanov - APA-Sport. Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has failed to attain the leadership position after the third running defeat in Mikhail Tal memorial tournament held in Moscow, Russia.
The 23-aged player was beaten by Alexei Shirov (Spain) in the 8th round. Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) won over his countryman Eugenie Alekseev, Gata Kamsky (USA) over Alexander Morozevich (Russia). The games of Ruslan Ponomaryov (Ukraine) - Vassily Ivanchuk (Ukraine) and Peter Leko (Hungary) - Boris Gelfand (Israel) ended in draws. Ivanchuk tops the competition with 5.5 points. Mamedyarov is ranked the 9th with 3 points. The competition will be over today after the encounters Kamsky - Ponomaryov, Ivanchuk - Shirov, Gelfand - Morozevich, Ivanchuk - Shirov, Mamedyarov - Kramnik, Alekseev – Leko.
The blitz chess tournament will be held on August 29-30 with the participation of 18 players.
