Shakhriyar Mamedyarov suffers first defeat in Tal memorial

Baku. Kenan Hasanov - APA-Sport. Azerbaijani grandmaster Shakhriyar Mamedyarov has suffered the first defeat in Mikhail Tal memorial tournament in Moscow, Russia.
The 23-year-old was unexpectedly beaten by Boris Gelfand (Israel) with whites in the 6th round. Alexander Morozevich (Russia) won over Ruslan Ponomaryov (Ukraine) and Vassily Ivanchuk defeated Peter Leko (Hungary). The encounters of Vladimir Kramnik (Russia) - Gata Kamsky (USA), Alexei Shirov (Spain) - Eugenie Alekseev (Russia) ended in draws. Morozevich is leading the competition with 4.5 points. Mamedyarov is ranked the 4th now with 3 points. Ivanchuk - Morozevich, Ponomaryov - Shirov, Alekseev - Mamedyarov, Kamsky - Leko, Gelfand – Kramnik will be played today in round 7.
The 9-round competition will last till August 27. It will be followed by the blitz tournament with the participation of 18 players on August 29-30.
