Azerbaijan to leave for Beijing tomorrow

The delegation includes majority of sportsmen including boxers, wrestlers, athletes and swimmers, as well as coaches and officials of National Olympic Committee, Youth and Sports Ministry and several federations. The rest sportsmen, their coaches and tourists will take another flight on August 16. The crew will return on August 25 â€“ a day after the Olympics. Rahimov stated that they have allocated AZN 800.000 for the flights.
â€œWe planned to order a flight for August 30. As we changed it with a usual flight, the sum may fall downâ€, he said.
The minister noted that they have allocated the fund of AZN 3.150.000 for preparation for Beijing Olympics. Most of fund has been transferred to AzAL. Rahimov added that the rest of the sum has been spent on the opening ceremony, parades and sports uniforms prepared in Slovenia and Switzerland. The minister said the uniforms cost over â‚¬500.000. The uniforms will not reflect the three-colored national flag.
â€œWe wanted the shirts to reflect the national flag but we couldnâ€™t find a design. We will have a white suit, with a red tie with the reflection of national flag on it and white shirt. I am sure we will attract much attention in the opening ceremonyâ€, he added.
The minister stated that Azerbaijan chief de-mission Ilham Medetov and Mirkamil Rahimov are engaged in the security of Azerbaijani delegation. The officials who visited Beijing on July 25 have already ensured all necessary safety in the Olympic village.
Azerbaijan joins the Olympics with 44 sportsmen.
