Roundtable “Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan” held in Baku

Roundtable on “Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan” was held on the initiative of Asian Dialogue Public Union and Caucasus Media Center, APA reports. Chief of Caucasus Media Center Sevil Nuriyeva spoke about the state of Iraqi Turkmens against the background of ongoing socio-political processes in Iraq. She said that Azerbaijani people and state should support Turkmens. Member of the management board of Iraq Turkmen National Front, chief of Turkmen Justice Party Anvar Hamid Bayragdar said that Iraq Turkmens faced only pressure and massacres within the 80 past years during English and Arab invasion. He noted that Turkmens still live in this situation.
“After Iraq was invaded by the US attitude towards Turkmens did not change, on the contrary oil factor caused a tense situation,” he said.
Bayragdar said they are interested in establishing relations between Iraqi Turkmens and Azerbaijan on the level of socio-political organization.
“There are 35 public organizations fighting for the rights of Turkmens in Iraq. We consider that it would be expedient to open representation of Iraq Turkmen National Front in Azerbaijan that will unite most of these organizations. We also want to establish relations in the field of education,” he said.
Parliamentarian Ganira Pashayeva said Iraqi Turkmens live in the strategic region and therefore face a number of problems. She expressed her hope that Azerbaijani government will take several steps for deepening the relations.
Member of Iraq Turkmen National Front Political Council Huseyn Karimbayoglu said there will be no peace in Iraq unless fact on invasion is eliminated.
