Russia’s stance on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova told a briefing on Thursday, an APA correspondent from Moscow.

In response to an Armenian journalist’s question on whether Russian State Duma Chairman Vyacheslav Volodin’s latest statement that Azerbaijan takes a constructive position on the Nagorno-Karabakh means that Armenia sticks to a non-constructive position, Zakharova said: “Russia’s stance on settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged.”

Zakharova called on representatives of the Azerbaijani and Armenian media to take a constructive position on this issue.

“Do not think that we do not understand it. Every word uttered about to the Nagorno-Karabakh problem is met with great interest in the conflicting countries. You know that we have a traditional stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as on our relations with Azerbaijan and Armenia,” she said. “It is a fundamental, official position which has not changed in any way. We are working with both countries to achieve a result. We do not compare our role in resolving this conflict with Baku and Yerevan.”

The resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is one of the most pressing topics for Russia on the international agenda, Zakharova stressed.

She went on to say that the agreements reached between the two countries are certainly in Russia’s interests.

“That's why Russia's stance on the Nagorno-Karabakh problem has not changed. As for statements, they are voiced by politicians, parliamentarians and historians of different levels. Such statements are numerous. You know that there is an official position regarding this issue, and this position is no secret to you,” Zakharova said.
