Representatives of Azerbaijan’s Committee Against Torture have met with the daycare worker detained for child maltreatment.

Committee Chairman Tural Huseynov told APA that deputy chairman Elchin Shirinov and expert Gartal Huseynov today held a monitoring at the temporary detention facility of the Yasamal District Police Department in Baku.

The human rights defenders met with Furuza Taghiyeva, a daycare worker who is in custody for mistreating a child.

"Füruza Tagiyeva did not complain about the conditions of her detantion and treatment, but she appeared to be distressed and unable to accept her detention for this incident.”

Huseynov also noted that Taghiyeva regrets her acts.

“Furuza Taghiyeva said she hadn’t beaten the child. She reproved and scolded the child for being naughty. Also, she regrets having done so, and noted that she is a mother of two infants and never committed violence against any children in educational facilities where she worked,” he said.

Taghiyeva is accused of child maltreatment in Children's Studio Center in Baku. The Investigation Department of the Yasamal District Police Office has initiated a criminal case under the Article 133 of the Criminal Code (Torture).

Taghiyeva has been detained as a suspect.
