Chairman of the Presidium of Azerbaijan’s Bar Association Anar Baghirov has rejected rumors on an alleged biased towards lawyer with opposition views during bar exams, especially during the interview stage for advocacy.

No discrimination is allowed during the admission to the Bar Association, noted Baghirov.

“Among those failed, there are also civil servants, members of ruling New Azerbaijan Party (YAP). How do they explain this? We don’t check the party or religious affiliation of a candidate during the admission contest. The requirements are defined by law, and we accept documents according these requirements. Party or religious affiliation of people or other factors are of no importance for us. I state with full responsibility that members of New Azerbaijan Party do not constitute a minority among those who have not passed the exam. There are also members of other parties among those failed. Members of YAP also have complaints on the exam results. There can be no discrimination in the contest for admission to the Bar Association. These statements are false. It is obvious that a person who could not pass the exam will not admit that he had failed, but will cite hundreds of reasons. Unfortunately, there is such a problem. We see this and react,” he said.
