‘We are, in essence, diversifying energy sources. The Southern Gas Corridor is a new energy vein’, President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the Southern Gas Corridor.
Head of state noted that interests of supplying, transit and consuming countries have been met in this project: ‘Without this balance of interests, the project could not have been implemented. We must provide mutual cooperation’.
Aliyev said that Azerbaijan is an independent country: ‘GDP tripled during past fifteen years. External public debt is at low level – 20% of GDP. Currency reserves are 4-5-fold more than external debt. Poverty and unemployment level makes up 5%. This shows that oil has turned into a human capital. Our policy was to share oil revenues equally. We direct oil and gas revenues to the non-oil sector’.
