No one can withdraw the Azerbaijani delegation from the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) as Azerbaijan defines a delegation to the organization itself, Samad Seyidov, head of the Azerbaijani delegation to the PACE told a press conference on Wednesday, APA reports.
The PACE Committee on Rules of Procedure on Wednesday decided to impose sanctions on Pedro Agramunt (Spain, EPP/CD) for a period of ten years, and Cezar Florin Preda (Romania, EPP/CD), Samad Seyidov (Azerbaijan, EC) and Jordi Xuclà (Spain, ALDE) for a period of two years.
The PACE committee’s decision is a manifestation of another double standard attitude towards Azerbaijan, noted Seyidov.
“This is not a new incident. We have repeatedly witnessed double standards in relation to Azerbaijan in this organization,” said Seyidov, stressing that the decision on sanctions is groundless and biased.
He pointed out that the PACE Committee on Rules of Procedure has a different attitude towards Armenia.
“They always expressed positive opinions on Armenia’s former ruling regime. But what happened? The Armenians themselves threw that regime into a dump of history. Of course, there are sensible forces in the PACE. However, some people act insidiously. They want to alienate Azerbaijan from the PACE. The decision on sanctions serves this,” Seyidov added.
