‘We are not engaging in creation of North-South transport corridor and completed all necessary works in our territory. So, the routes from North to South and from East to West pass through Azerbaijan’s territory. We allocated additional funds for completion of North-South transport corridor and I’m sure that this route will be launched in the near future. So, Azerbaijan, which has no access to open sea, will turn into a transport and logistics hub. We already see it and we are already performing this function’, President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev said at the opening of the Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex.

‘It was possible to think that we have already completed our works. However, we ought to look at the future. Now, we are engaging in launch of South-West transport corridor. I was informed that the first train was sent off via this route. So, by creating a transport infrastructure, we will have increased Azerbaijan’s geopolitical, geo-economics significance. At the same time, these projects strengthen the international cooperation’, he added.

President noted that the East-West transport corridor connects China, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Turkey and European countries: ‘North-South transport corridor connects Pakistan, India, Iran, Azerbaijan, Russia, and Northern European countries. South-West corridor connects more countries. Azerbaijan participates in all of these projects. We made efforts, took steps for implementation of these projects. These projects will increase geopolitical significance of Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan will continue to operate as a indispensable country for regional cooperation in Eurasia. Azerbaijan is known as a very reliable partner. Our economic power allows us to implement such historical projects. Construction of the Baku International Sea Trade Port Complex is one of the important projects implemented on Azerbaijan’s state budget’.
