A meeting of the ad hoc working group on the legal status of the Caspian Sea is planned to be held prior to the upcoming summit of Caspian states in Astana, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Khalaf Khalafov said on Thursday, APA reports.

The meeting is expected to take place in Astana after May 20, said Khalafov.

The deputy FM noted that in principle the discussions on the legal status of the Caspian Sea are over.

“Some technical issues may arise and have to be agreed. Probably, there will be a conference of ministers the day before the summit. Hopefully, the summit will take place in the early fall of this year. Negotiations are being held with all the countries. Once fully confirmed, the date will be publicly announced. The decision will be announced, after an agreement is reached with regard to the proposals. As part of the summit, a final declaration and agreements on cooperation in some areas will be signed. All states have a political will to adopt this convention. I believe that if the summit will take place, a convention will definitely be signed,” Khalafov added.
