Police salaries increased 16-fold in last 15 years â€“ interior minister

The world is going through a very troubled time: dozens of countries have drifted into civil war in the past twenty years, losing their statehood, independence, having millions of people as refugees, Azerbaijani Interior Minister Colonel General Ramil Usubov said in an interview with “Azerbaijan” newspaper.

“The geographical region in which we live is witnessing numerous wars accompanied with terrorism, political chaos, and religious radicalism. This plight is getting closer to Azerbaijan and certain forces that have been trying to afflict our country with it have been operating for many years without a break,” he said.

Thanks to President Ilham Aliyev's appropriate policies and wise decisions, however, Azerbaijan is well protected from these problems, and social stability and the criminogenic situation is under strict control, the minister noted.

"President Ilham Aliyev's extensive support and assistance to interior agencies give us substantial support and high moral stimulus. In the last 15 years, hundreds of facilities have been constructed or reconstructed and Mr. President has participated in their groundbreaking or inaugural ceremonies. Furthermore, thousands of special equipment pieces have been purchased. All administrative service facilities from district police stations to main departments have been upgraded, material and technical supply has been innovated and information technology has reached a high level. During this period, 14 orders were issued to raise salaries for positions and ranks, which resulted in a 16-fold increase in wages,” he said.

The minister added that the head of state highly appreciates hard work and courage of the staff. “Over the past 15 years, 626 employees of the Interior Ministry have been awarded state prizes and 44 senior officials have been granted high special ranks.”

Usubov underlined that the existing socio-political stability in Azerbaijan is the result of the activities being carried out by President Ilham Aliyev.
