The European Union stands ready to help Azerbaijan become a transport hub and diversity its economy, said Luc Devigne, Deputy Managing Director of the European External Action Service for Europe and Central Asia and Director for Russia, Eastern Partnership, Central Asia and OSCE.

He made the remarks at the 15th meeting of the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in Baku on May 7, APA reports

“We want to cooperate with Azerbaijan in the fields of security and energy, and to achieve success in the field of human rights and public administration,” he said.

Devigne pointed out that some progress has been made in the field of human rights in regard to the agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan.

“We want to continue negotiations on all chapters in the field of trade. Membership in the World Trade Organization (WTO) is of great importance. We do not understand why Azerbaijan can not gain access to the WTO, having great economic power. Countries with weaker economies than Azerbaijan have achieved success in this direction," he added.
