The number of Iraqi tourists coming to Azerbaijan has increased over the past three years, Iraq’s Deputy Foreign Minister Said Shorsh Khalid told reporters in Baku on Friday, APA reports.

“If two or three years ago nearly 3,000 tourists visited Azerbaijan annually, now this figure is approximately 65,000,” he noted.

Iraq and Azerbaijan enjoy good relations, the envoy said, adding. “Iraq’s Embassy in Baku operates well. We believe that bilateral ties can be improved further.”

Shorsh Khalid underscored the need to improve relations between the two countries in the fields of energy and agriculture. “Iraq and Azerbaijan have a great potential for this,” he said.

The Iraqi deputy minister is visiting Baku to attend the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Mid-Term Ministerial Conference, titled “Promoting international peace and security for sustainable development”, which kicked off on April 5.
