Baku hosts int’l scientific conference as part of 6th Global Baku Forum

An international scientific conference, titled “Interpretation of Nizami's Cultural Heritage in the Modern Period”, was held in Baku on March 14 within the framework of the 6th Global Baku Forum.

The conference was co-organized by the Azerbaijani State Committee for Work with Diaspora, the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and Search Results

Making speeches at the event, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) Isa Habibbeyli, Co-Chair of the Nizami Ganjavi International Center and Director of the Library of Alexandria Ismail Serageldin, Dr Christine van Ruymbeke of the University of Cambridge, Secretary of the Department of Human Sciences of ANAS, Director of the Institute of Manuscripts Teymur Karimli spoke on the genius poet’s creative work.

Habibbayli noted that is one of the prominent Azerbaijani figures who made huge contributions to the world literature.

“Our great poet is comparable to a number of renowned poets. Nizami Ganjavi is the Alexander the Great of the world literature; while Alexander the Great conquered the world with his might and power, Nizami Ganjavi did the same with his pen,” he added.

Teymur Karimli, in turn, talked about the research into the works of Nizami in the years of independence, noting that the great poet’s works are greatly needed across the world.

Later on, Dr Christine van Ruymbeke made an analytic speech about Nizami’s works.
