Mass events planned to be held in Europe to mark centenary of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic

Discussions are being held in Amsterdam on holding mass events in Europe to mark the centenary of the Azerbaijan Democratic Republic (ADR).

It is also planned to organize commemorative events in Europe on the 100th anniversary of March 31 – the Day of Genocide of the Azerbaijanis.

Discussions will be held within the framework of the extraordinary congress of the Congress of European Azerbaijanis in Amsterdam today, with the participation of diaspora organizations from European countries, politicians from several countries and public representatives, APA reports.

Azerbaijani President's Assistant for Public and Political Affairs Ali Hasanov, Chairman of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora Nazim Ibrahimov and heads of Azerbaijan’s leading media outlets will take part in the congress.

Sahil Gasimov, President of the Congress of European Azerbaijanis, told APA that as a conclusion of the discussions a plan of events will be approved in accordance with the Azerbaijani president’s decree on declaring 2018 the ‘Year of the Azerbaijani Democratic Republic’ in the country.

“In addition, an action plan will be adopted under the relevant presidential decree on marking the 100th anniversary of March 31 – the Day of Genocide of the Azerbaijanis. The action plan envisages recognition of legal documents on genocide in official circles of European countries, discussion of documents in legislative bodies, and other issues.

The congress is organized with the support of the State Committee for Work with Diaspora of Azerbaijan.
