The 15th meeting of the European Union-Azerbaijan Cooperation Council was held in an atmosphere of positive, constructive and practical dialogue, the spokesman for Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, Hikmat Hajiyev, told APA.

He said the meeting was chaired by Azerbaijan’s Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Federica Mogherini.

“The issues of cooperation in the political, economic, trade, transport, energy and humanitarian spheres between Azerbaijan and the EU were thoroughly discussed at the meeting. It was noted that the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to the European Union in early 2017 opened a new page in the development of bilateral relations and ensured a qualitatively new level of relations,” Hajiyev said.

The EU reiterated at the meeting its resolute support for the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway, the development of the East-West transport corridor, as well as for the Southern Gas Corridor and TAP projects, the spokesman noted.

He said that the EU again expressed its full support for Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty.

At the end of the meeting, Azerbaijan and the EU agreed to establish a mechanism for dialogue on security and energy issues, added Hajiyev.
