There is a need to create a working group to study issues in the field of organ transplantation and prepare offers on this matter, Elkhan Azizov, head of the law and internal control sector of Azerbaijan’s Health Ministry, said on Friday.

He made the remarks addressing hearings on the improvement of the law “On transplantation of human organs and (or) tissues,” which was held by the parliament’s Health Committee, APA reports.

Azizov said that the issue of donor’s kinship has to be discussed.

“The law does not envisage a kinship issue. Clinics reject patients when the donor is a relative. In this case, patients appeal to the Health Ministry. There are people whose relatives do not want to be donors,” said the sector head, stressing the need to remove restrictions in law on trade in human organs.

“We keep it as a criminal act in the law in order to prevent trade in human organs. However, in reality, people agree with donors themselves and take their organs. The main issue here should be the will of a person. It is absurd to expect someone to donate their organ to other person. Criminal actions should be stopped,” he added.
