Azerbaijan's Gazakh District Court on Tuesday continued the trial of deputy chairperson of the Azerbaijan Popular Front Party (APFP) Gozal Bayramli.

During the trial, a public prosecutor sought a 4-year prison sentence for Gozal Bayramli.

Earlier, the State Border Service reported that as a result of the measures jointly taken by Azerbaijan’s border guards and customs officers, 55-year-old Baku resident Gozal Bayramli was detained at the Shikhli border checkpoint in Gazakh district on May 25, 2017 while attempting to cross from Georgia into the country with undeclared 12,000 US dollars in her hand luggage.

A criminal case was initiated against Gozal Bayramli under Article 206.1 (smuggling) of the Azerbaijani Criminal Code.

An initial investigation revealed that when Bayramli left Azerbaijan for Georgia on May 24, 2017, she had no cash to be declared.

Bayramli rejects all the accusations.
