PACE winter session kicks off today

The winter session of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) starts today in Strasbourg, France, APA reports.

The session will last until January 26.

On the first day of the session, the Assembly is due to elect its president, vice presidents and a new commissioner for human rights.

The ongoing conflicts in Europe, the difficulties faced by people who suffer from these conflicts, the Israeli-Palestinian peace process and the role of the Council of Europe, and a third concerning rising anti-Semitism, Islamophobia and xenophobia in Europe will be discussed during the session.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan is expected to address the PACE winter session on Jan. 24.

Azerbaijani delegation member Vusal Huseynov will also present a report on the theme “Strengthening international regulations against trade in goods used for torture and the death penalty” on the last day of the session – January 26.
