Two detained in Azerbaijan over hoax call about terror attack, police say

Azerbaijani police have detained two persons for making a hoax call about a terror attack in the country, the Interior Ministry’s press service told APA on Saturday.

On January 12, at 12:38 (GMT +4 hours), an unknown person called the “112” hotline of the Emergency Situations Ministry, saying in English that they had a bomb and they were planning a terror attack in the country, the press service said. The information was transferred to the “102” hotline of the Interior Ministry.

As a result of immediate measures taken by law enforcement authorities, the information was not verified, and two people were detained for making a hoax call about a terror attack, added the press service.

The Interior Ministry’s press service stated that such actions aimed at alarming and agitating among people create criminal liability, and serious legal measures will be taken in respect of persons who provide knowingly false information to law enforcement authorities.
