A draft decision on candidates for the post of Azerbaijan’s human rights commissioner (Ombudsperson) will not be tabled in the parliament’s spring session, APA reports.

The draft decision was expected to be discussed at the parliament’s autumn session in 2017. However, its discussion was postponed.

Currently, Elmira Suleymanova holds the post of Azerbaijan’s Human Rights Commissioner. Her term of office expired on March 5, 2017. Elmira Suleymanova continues to fulfill her duties as the issue of electing a new ombudsperson is postponed.

Suleymanova was elected as ombudsperson twice in 2002 and 2010.
