Religious leaders of Georgia have issued a statement on the latest developments in the country.

According to APA's Georgian bureau, the statement condemns any violence committed for religious reasons.

The document notes that terrorism does not have any nationality or religion.

"Violence, cruelty and torture have nothing to do with Islam. Islam is a religion of peace and kindness. We urge all citizens of Georgia, regardless of their nationality and religion, to protect peace and stability in the country and to unite against violence,” said the statement.

The authors also noted that the Muslims of Georgia have lived in peace with other confessions for centuries and have contributed to the country’s development.

It is noteworthy that five people suspected terrorists were arrested yesterday in a special operation in the Chechen-populated Pankisi Gorge.
