One of the main achievements of GUAM in 2017 was the unified position of its members, GUAM Secretary General Altai Efendiyev told APA’s Georgia bureau.

He said that this year the GUAM member countries demonstrated a unified position in several international organizations such as the UN, OSCE and the European Union. “This is a very positive trend that is likely to be continued in the years to come,” added Efendiyev.

The secretary general said the year 2017 was very important for the organization.

“This year marked GUAM’s 20th anniversary. Georgia’s GUAM chairmanship gave impetus to the organization’s activities. Work has been done to implement initiatives for creating a transport corridor and a free trade zone,” said Efendiyev, adding that the work on these initiatives will be continued during Moldova’s chairmanship in 2018.

GUAM is intending to expand cooperation with international, regional and parliamentary organizations in 2018, the secretary general concluded.

The GUAM Organization for Democracy and Economic Development is a regional organization of four post-Soviet states: Georgia, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, and Moldova.
