Europe tends to react only when it is faced with threat itself, said Bahar Muradova, Deputy Chairperson of the Azerbaijani Parliament.
Muradova was commenting on the approval by the European Parliament of the annual "EU foreign and security policy", which for the first time reaffirmed EU's commitments to support the territorial integrity of all Eastern Partnership countries within their internationally recognized borders.
The resolution was adopted by an overwhelming majority of votes (408 for and 132 against).
“Unfortunately, Europe only now understands the importance of such a position due to the growing separatist attempts aimed again the territorial integrity of many countries,” she noted.
Muradova said such a position was expected against the backdrop of recent events.
“Unfortunately, Europe tends to react only when it is faced with threat itself. However, I believe such documents are of great importance for the resolution of conflict and prevention of separatist efforts,” said Muradova, adding that there are problems in implementing the relevant decisions of international organizations on the settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
