OIC FMs meet in Istanbul to discuss Jerusalem issue

A meeting of the foreign ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was held in Istanbul on Wednesday within the framework of the extraordinary summit of the OIC on the issue of Jerusalem.

Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov also attended the meeting, an APA correspondent reported from Istanbul.

Later today a meeting of the heads of state of the OIC member states will be held.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev arrived in Istanbul yesterday at the invitation of Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to attend the OIC summit.

U.S. President Donald Trump recognized Jerusalem as the capital of Israel on Dec. 5. In a speech at the White House, Trump said his administration would also begin a process of moving the U.S. embassy in Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, which is expected to take years.

Current chairman of the OIC, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdogan called on holding an extraordinary summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation.
