Criminal elements detected in activities of 23 municipalities

"During the first 9 months of this year, 140 seminars, discussions and meetings were held in order to provide methodological assistance to municipalities, more than 6,000 municipalities and staff attended the event. Analyses show that most of the complaints received by the center for work with municipalities as well as of decisions deemed unlawful had to do with violations of the law on land. The number of acts abolished deemed unlawful has doubled to reach 1,040,” Zahir Alizadeh, head of the Center for Work with Municipalities of the Republic of Azerbaijan, said in an interview on “The development of local self-governance development in Azerbaijan: the current situation and prospects" held in Gabala, APA's local bureau reports.

Alizadeh named a number of common offences committed by municipalities, noting that over illegal decisions on 2,000 hectares of land have been abrogated in the nine months of this year on the basis of suggestions from justice authorities. As a result of measures taken for administrative control, criminal elements have been detected in the activities of 23 municipalities and the material gathered has been submitted to investigative bodies.
