General Prosecutor’s Office, Interior Ministry release joint statement on murder of five people in Salyan

Azerbaijani General Prosecutor’s Office and the Interior Ministry have released a joint statement on the murder of five people in Salyan district.

Prosecuting officers and the police, as well as forensic experts immediately arrived on the scene of the incident on the basis of information received from the Salyan district Prosecutor’s Office about the deliberate murder of a resident, named Mehpara Aliyeva, and her four daughters in her house. Body parts were found during the inspection of the scene, reads the statement.

The Investigation Directorate for Serious Crimes of the Prosecutor General's Office has initiated a criminal case under Article 120.2.7 (deliberate murder of two or more persons) of the Criminal Code. An investigative team of prosecuting and police officers was set up.

As a result of urgent investigative measures, Mehpara Aliyeva’s husband Farhad Aliyev and her son Fagan Aliyev were detained as suspects.

The bodies of Salyan resident Mehpara Aliyeva and her daughters (Ragiba, Sevda, Irada and Umida), who went missing three years ago, were found in the yard of their houses.

During the investigation, a man, called Farhad Aliyev, has been found guilty of killing his wife Mehpara Aliyeva and four daughters and burying their bodies in the yard of the house with the help of his son Fagan Aliyev.
