Russia’s new ambassador to Azerbaijan will be a diplomat who is currently an ambassador to one of CIS countries, Leonid Kalashnikov, Chairman of the Russian State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs, Eurasian Integration and Relations with Compatriots, told APA's Moscow correspondent

Kalashnikov said that the candidacy of Georgiy Zuev, deputy director of the human rights department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, for the post of ambassador to Azerbaijan is not being considered.

“As far as I know, the new ambassador will be a diplomat who is currently an ambassador to one of CIS countries. I prefer not to mention that person’s name,” he added.

On July 5 of this year the Russian media reported that the State Duma had approved Zuev’s candidacy. However, according to recent unofficial reports, the Azerbaijani side has not given consent to Zuev’s appointment as Russia’s ambassador to Azerbaijan.
