Russia opens criminal case against police officers accused of violence against Azerbaijani diaspora head

The Department of Russia’s Investigation Committee in the Republic of Tatarstan has filed a criminal case against police officers accused of violence against Sarraf Karimov, head of an Azerbaijani diaspora organization in the city of Kazan, the aggrieved person himself told APA.

The investigation into the criminal case is underway, said Karimov.

The diaspora head noted that the police officers, who committed violence against him, are being interrogates, there are no detainees yet.

“Pointing out some incident as a reason, they used force against me, and then Azerbaijanis living in the city. Here we can assert our rights, counting only on our own strengths. My claim is upheld, a criminal case has been filed. We are waiting for results,” he added.

On November 18, in Novo-Savinovsky district of Kazan, several police officers in civilian clothes forced Karimov to get out the car and beat him.
