As a result of holy figures beginning to be associated with the killing of people and use of force, Christians are dying, mosques and churches are being destroyed, said Chairman of the Caucasian Muslims Office (CMO), Sheikh ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade.

“We are very worried by the fact that attempts continue in different parts of the world to paint a picture believing people as extremists and terrorists,” Pashazade said addressing an international conference on the theme “Russia-Azerbaijan: Interfaith Dialogue and Islamic Solidarity for Peace, Security and Cooperation” in St. Petersburg on Thursday, APA’s Russia bureau reported.

He stressed that the essence of Islam is being deliberately distorted.

"We strongly condemn Islamic State (also known IS, ISIL, ISIS and Daesh) and other takfiri terrorist groups that use Islam as a cover for achieving their goals and sow discord in religion,” said Pashazade, expressing support for Russia’s operations against ISIL, which defames religion on a global scale.

“I’m confident that the fight against extremism and radicalism is possible only as a result of joint efforts of the state, public and political figures and religious associations. Bringing up children in the spirit of traditional religious values and tolerance, we will be able to support inter-religious harmony and interethnic solidarity,” added the CMO chairman.
