EU Commissioner for Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn touched upon the importance of the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project during a meeting with participants of a press tour organized as part of the Eastern Partnership summit on Nov. 23, an APA correspondent reported from Brussels.

“Baku-Tbilisi-Kars project is in our interest. Opinions are sound that this is a part of the Silk Way concept which is definitely in our interest,” said the commissioner, an APA correspondent reported from Brussels.

He noted that the EU is the most important trade partner for around 20 countries.

“The EU is open for international trade relations. We are interested in any kind of the infrastructure projects,” added Hahn.

Asked about the participation of two conflicting countries in the Eastern Partnership program and the possibilities for developing ties between these countries, the EU commissioner said. “In the western Balkans, currently we have a very successful project which has been started four years ago to improve relationship between countries in the region, to contribute their reconciliation. And therefore, any kind of intensified connections in different areas will definitely contribute to improve the relationship between countries to overcome current conflicts.”
