The flag of the separatist regime created in the occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan will be prevented from being raised during the Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 which is due to take place in Tbilisi on Nov. 26, the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) said in response to APA’s inquiry.
“The EBU holds the right to disallow any flag that poses a problem for the live broadcasting of the Eurovision contest. This includes any form of flag that is offensive to spectators or is of political and commercial nature,” the EBU said in a comment.
The Junior Eurovision Song Contest 2017 will be held in Tbilisi, the capital city of Georgia, on November 26.
Eurovision’s official website for Armenia notes that 9-year-old Misha (Michael Grigoryan), who will represent Armenia in the contest, goes to school No.3 in Stepanakert (Khankendi) and is an active member of a group called “The Voices of Artsakh.”
To date, Armenian representatives have raised the separatist regime’s flag multiple times during the Eurovision contests. Consequently, the flag was listed as banned.
