Moscow does not exclude the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime with Georgia on a reciprocal basis in the future, said Russia’s Deputy Foreign Minister Grigoriy Karasin, APA reported.
Karasin said that it is difficult to move forward.
"We do not exclude the possibility of introducing a visa-free regime in the future on a reciprocal basis. Another thing is that it is difficult to move toward this. The first obstacle is the absence of diplomatic relations, which, as you know, came to a halt at the initiative of Tbilisi. When making an appropriate decision, it is necessary to take into account the growth of cross-border threats, including terrorist threats, as well as illegal migration,” he said.
Karasin added that the Russian side gave Georgia specific proposals on the introduction of a visa-free regime for members of air crews.
"We are pleased to inform that in 2016 the number of visas issued from our side in Tbilisi almost doubled, reaching 40,000. And this year the same figure will be even higher,” said Karasin.
