“We have not seen a war so far, hopefully, there will be no war between the Iraqi government troops and the Kurds,” Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said at a joint press conference following the meeting with his Iraqi counterpart Ibrahim Al-Jaafari.

Lavrov said Russia will not offer plans for settlement of the situation around Baghdad and Erbil in Iraqi Kurdistan. He reiterated Russia's respect for Iraq's sovereignty and territorial integrity, calling on the parties involved to solve all their problems through dialogue between all ethnic and political groups and faiths.

The minister said the Iraqi government did not ask Moscow to close Russia’s Consulate General in Kurdistan. “I have seen the report disseminated by Euronews today. Calling itself the most objective channel in Europe, Euronews stated that Russia rejected the request of Baghdad to close its Consulate General in Erbil. We investigated this issue during the talks with my counterpart. Iraqi Foreign Minister assured that Euronews, which is an objective channel, succumbed to provocation and disseminated an obvious misinformation.
