The Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) has proposed that businesses undertake to finance the development of science by paying taxes.
ANAS President Akif Alizade said that in all countries businesses undertake to finance 50 percent of the development of science.
According to him, the budget does not fully cover the development of science and business should undertake the financing for the development of this sphere.
"We believe that business in our country is not so united today. But in any case, business structures can give a big push to the development of this field by paying more attention to science. Businesses today pay taxes to the state, but they should also pay a little tax for science. We’re thinking of having a talk with Minister of Taxes Fazil Mammadov and modify the legislation after finding a solution. We can start with 0.1% tax. Later on, further decisions can be made by looking at the effects of science. It is not right that we should always ask the government to increase funds and raise salaries. The only way is to get it from the total,” he added.
